Something that unnerves me about your drawings and paintings is how you’re almost floating through them, events fading and appearing without any conventional tension. They’re weird and funny, macabre and sometimes hypnagogic. Emotionality and sentimentality feel intentionally very elusive.

The works are situated with some particularities of place and often workplace, which provide them with a kind of West Coast inflection. It makes them feel just real enough to have been imagined from something true, but far away from the diaristic. Only one painting has a genuine frown in it. A young man rides on a scooter with his messenger bag looking a bit harrowed, or nervous through a dark forest with protruding branches tipped with explosive punches of pink. It displaces the tension yet again and only strengthens the case that honesty is merely the unpreventable.
