Do you know Bud Snow?

The international mural artist, whose public work explores primal, sexual, and subversive themes, is someone to know. On May 20th, the public is invited to contemplate the Bay Area artist’s iconic style in an interactive, multimedia environment, at the culmination of a three-month art residency at The Growlery. New mixed-media paintings, sculpture, masks, costumes, performances, installations, and video will act as a cohesive and conceptual portal for the visiting mortal.

Bud Snow shape-shifts common objects, paint, and paradigms: art as an avenue to the metaphysical. “The work becomes a meditation on vibrational reality, both in the viewing and the making of it. As a practical alchemis…t I use non-bias materials to elevate and connect others; this is the key to the collection.”

At once contemporary and prehistoric, Snow’s work is thoughtful in the now, turning non-precious materials into precious relics and uplifting symbols of violence, sex, politics, animalism, and the mundane.

Informed by a life of art, performance, and skateboard culture, Snow was raised in Vancouver BC by established artists. Influenced early on by a variety of cultures, Snow spent time performing with an activist-based circus troupe, starting an independent skateboard company, distributing self published punk zines, and shooting unruly amounts of medium format film.

Among other recent large scale projects, Snow recently directed a 40-foot collaborative mural in San Francisco’s Mission District.

Bud Snow’s larger-than-life aesthetic will shine in the Growlery’s Victorian era space at 235 Broderick Street in San Francisco.
