Root Division held a highly successful 11th Annual Art Auction on October 25. This is this non-profit’s major fundraising event which benefits Root Division’s free after school art classes for Bay Area youth. Since its founding in 2002 by three MFA graduates of the San Francisco Art Institute, Root Division has brought together artists, teachers, curators, local schools, audiences, individuals, and foundations to achieve its mission. Root Division runs four interconnected programs – Studios, Youth Education, Adult Education, and Exhibitions & Events.

The Silent Auction throughout the evening featured an eclectic mix of quality artwork from over 100 local artists: from Robert Minervini to Hung Liu, and including Root Division staff from Executive Director, Michelle Mansour and Events & Exhibitions Coordinator, Amy Cancelmo to interns like Jessica Tyler. Also included in the silent auction was an opportunity for bidders to sponsor one of Root Division’s artists participating in their Studios Program, that “acts as hub for interaction and development for promising emerging artists, while empowering them to give back to the community.” Root Division is currently hosting 18 artists in 16 studios at below-market rates. They obtain valuable professional & creative development opportunities in exchange for volunteer hours towards the organization.
