San Francisco Art Institute’s “Currency,” which featured new work from nearly 100 Masters of Fine Art students on view from May 16 to 19 at The Old Mint was an exciting opportunity to see contemporary expressions of local artists within a uniquely San Francisco National Historic Landmark.
Working in painting, photography, printmaking, film, sculpture, installation, digital media, performance, these emerging artists presented work that is the result of intense periods of collaboration, critical engagement, and artistic development, reflecting both current dialogues in contemporary art and strong individual points of view. In addition, many artists have created site-specific pieces that respond to the history, character, and physical spaces of The Old Mint.
