Southern Exposure’s annual Monster Drawing Rally  allows spectators to observe artists in the act of creation in the public domain, in many ways demystifying a process that usually occurs in the artist’s private studio.

This past Friday, June 14, the annual drawing rally was held again, but this time at a larger location, The NWBLK in the Inner Mission. The evening was composed of four, one-hour drawing shifts wherein approximately 30 artists of each shift created a diverse array of artwork. As the drawings were completed, they were posted the wall available  for purchase to an eagerly-awaiting crowd at $60 each. Given this unique opportunity to watch a drawing come to life and purchase it minutes after its completion at bargain price, audiences were engaged in all aspects of the art-making process.
