Photo Feature: California Academy of Sciences “Gallery Crawl” NightLife

by Admin on 08/25/2013

Every Thursday night after California Academy of Sciences’ regular hours, NightLife offers an opportunity for adults to enjoy its educational and fun exhibitions and animals with DJs and drinks with an unique theme. Last Thursday, the Academy transformed into a pop-up art museum, featuring guest curators who took over a portion of the space with art and artists that reflect the intersection of art and science. In the African Hall Gallery, Modern Eden introduced NightLife audiences to artists Leon Loucheur and Erika Sanada, who were creating artworks at the booth. Erika Sanada currently has an exhibit on view at the gallery. Curated by Betty Bigas, Roll Up Gallery’s space featured live art-making with artists Gabriel Castellanos, Boback Emad, and Erena Shimoda. Sculpture by Boback Emad was also on view in the East Garden Gallery. They also exhibited art by members of the Academy’s Creative and Exhibit Studios: Ian Hart, Jennifer Hennesy, Kristen Kong, Deborah Lao, and Musette Murray. In the East Pavilion Gallery, Spoke Art had artwork on view by artists Robert Bowen, Jessica Hess, and Scott Scheidly. Alongside Spoke in the Pavilion, Warholian hosted live-painting with artists Olivia Chen, Steve Javiel, and Daniel J. Valadez. A figure drawing workshop with Golden Gate Park neighbor to California Academy of Art, Sharon Art Studio was in the East Garden Gallery.
