Root Division’s “Introductions 2014″ on view now through September 27 is the non-profit arts organization’s eighth iteration of this annual, juried exhibition. Created in order to offer exhibition opportunities for emerging artists, as well as exposure to the public of the contemporary issues and ideals expressed in art produced by an array of artists working in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond through public receptions and a catalog,”Introductions” has become one of the most anticipated exhibitions of Root Division’s varied programming schedule.

From over 135 submissions this year’s jurors — artist and curator Kevin B. Chen, former Program Director for Intersection for the Arts; Jack Fischer, owner of Jack Fischer Gallery; and Maysoun Wazwaz, Program Manager of the Mills College Art Museum — selected twelve finalists: Jennifer Brandon, Marshall Elliott, Rodney Ewing, Patrick Hothan, Todd Lavine, Lisa McCutcheon, Samuel Metcalf, Mie Mogensen, Raphael Noz, Jeana Poindexter, Stephanie Rohlfs and Kate Short. From Jennifer Brandon’s “Screens” series, photographs of sculpted window film gathered up, attempting to reveal the duality of its surface, “…both resistant and permeable,” to Stephanie Rohlfs’ sculptures and installation described by the artist as “playful investigations of the inanimate life of objects,” these artists’ emerging careers as well as the body of their work including painting, drawing, sculpture, video, and photography encompasses a wide range and represents the region’s diversity.

“Introductions 2014” will be at Root Division, 1059 Market St. through September 27, 2014
