Call for Artists: Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Artist Residency — Deadline: March 7, 2016

YBCA Artist Residency 2016

All application materials are due Monday, March 7, 2016 by 5 p.m.
Late submissions will be disqualified.

Applicants to the residency must:

  1. be at least 18 years old
  2. not be enrolled as a full-time student during the residency period
  3. be a resident of San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin or San Mateo counties
    identify as an emerging or mid-career artist
  4. one artist (If part of a collective, all materials must be submitted by a single representative of the group)
  5. in lieu of application fee, be a YBCA member. (Please note that enrollment fees are not refundable.)

You are asked to provide the following. (Additional materials will not be viewed.)

  1. Work Samples: 4-5 images in jpeg format, each file not exceeding 3 MB in size, plus captions or descriptions for each image. Multimedia work samples must be uploaded to a third-party site (e.g. Vimeo or YouTube), and submitted as direct links. Total running time of all materials must not exceed 5 minutes.
  2. Artistic Statement : (500 words maximum) Describe your practice, discussing your discipline(s), areas of interest, and how this residency fits into your career trajectory.
  3. Proposal: (500 words maximum) Describe the project you want to present including preliminary ideas for engagement with Bay Area audiences. How will you engage your selected community? What are your tools for both engaging and evaluating your work and the community’s response. Why this group of people/place?
  4. Statement of Purpose: (200 words maximum) Describe why you choose to work through social and public engagement and how you would define these practices to an audience not familiar with the terms.
  5. Timeline: (200 words maximum) Provide a three-month timeline — How would your project unfold over the course of your residency?
  6. Résumé or CV: Two pages maximum.
