The Swell Gallery invites you to the opening reception of On Blue, a group show featuring the work of Douglas Angulo, Kai Chen, Jessica Fertonani Cooke, Abby Greg, Nick Mittelstead and Joe Robertson. Please join us on August 25th for at 4pm in the new Swell Gallery at Fort Mason.

Blue invokes a tone and mood of a variety of subjects and meanings. Blue is a void, empty, silent, a contemplative moment at night. It is the infinite, sacred and is god-like in its power. It is uniquely human in its meditative quality. In cultures dating back thousands of years, blue, being the color of the sky, has often been associated with the divine or spiritual but also signifies power, status, and beauty. These aspects of blue combine to tell the stories about histories, cultural values and human emotions. The works of art in On Blue feature the eponymous color’s full plurality—a breadth of visual poetry from artists in various disciplines from various cultural backgrounds.

The Swell Gallery is located on the first floor of SFAI’s New Graduate Center at Fort Mason. The exhibition will be on view from August 25–September 5, 2017.
